About NaNoWriMo and The Young Writers Program
A portion of the proceeds earned by My Own Magic goes to The Office of Letters and Light, the small but mighty nonprofit organization behind
NaNoWriMo and the Young Writers Program.
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing on November 1, and if they reach their word count goal by November 30, they win!
The Young Writers Program provides free Common Core-adapted curricula and student workbooks for all grade levels, as well as classroom kits to all educators teaching the program. Kids and teens also participate independently through a motivational, community-based website.
In 2011, the Young Writers Program counted 1,800 participating classrooms and 50,000 registered writers and educators, inspiring 81,000 people in classrooms and homes around the world. In 2012, NaNoWriMo and the Young Writers Program together expect to welcome over 300,000 authors writing novels in November.
